By guest writer, A.H.—I recently had a good friend ask me for scientific proof of the existence of Heaven. He explained that he was dissatisfied with the answers he had received from other influences in his life, most of which ended in something like “You must simply believe.”
Does this sound familiar to you? We’ve all heard this before, yet have been numbed to it. We have no desire of opening our hearts to one more pamphlet or one more preacher proclaiming that God loves you… at least not until our deepest questions are answered. The real issue that most of us have burning in our hearts is not only “Does God love me” but if there is a heaven, “Does God love me enough to allow me in?” Honestly for me, God’s love and Heaven are closely linked together. After all, what’s the point of God’s love if there is no Heaven, right?
So with the spotlight on me, I answered my friend in the best way I knew—to share my own experiences and testimony. As a follower of Jesus, I am not void from the hardships and realities of this life and the many questions that come with it.
It can be so easy to start doubting God’s real intentions, my future, and sometimes I can even start doubting and asking Does God love me? In a world so cold and broken, Heaven may seem almost like a fairytale.
An Undeniable Faith
Truthfully, I don’t think any of us can scientifically or physically prove the existence of it, yet this is where my faith kicks in. It is not a blind faith either. I find there is substantial historical proof that Jesus existed, died on the cross, and rose from the grave.
In fact, there are many ancient historians that documented the change in Jesus’ followers alone—in their attitudes, demeanor, and most of all their courage to proclaim the Gospel after He rose from the grave, even unto the death.
However, just a few days before Jesus’ crucifixion, even the disciples themselves ran and scattered in fear because their leader had been arrested and death was imminent. It appeared that the movement they had heavily invested in was suddenly over. Perhaps the “Kingdom of Heaven” was too good to be true.
Thankfully, God had a much bigger plan that trumped even death itself. Indeed, the disciples must have witnessed nothing short of a miracle for God to lead all but one of them to the most gruesome and terrifying deaths proclaiming the same Gospel.
Something tells me that there must have been a drastic change between the time of Christ’s death and their global ministries—something so real and beyond anything this life could ever offer that they would surrender all in order to experience it. They finally began to grasp the truth of God’s love for them and the real purpose of Jesus’ ministry.
There’s a Party And You’re Invited
So how can we begin to experience this same hope and fervor? Picture it this way. If there was a giant party being held somewhere and everybody was invited, as a guest the only thing that you would have to do to attend is acknowledge the host and the invitation. Undeniably, God has sent out this invitation through His son Jesus and has made all the preparations for those who will believe.
God is love which is manifested in His ultimate desire to be in relationship with each of us for eternity where we will experience His fullness, love, grace mercy and goodness. He longs to make Himself and His kingdom known to all who are willing.
In fact, He was so willing that He sent His only son to die the most unimaginable death ever known to man (To more fully grasp this truth, learn more about Jesus crucifixion Here). Therefore, the mystery of Heaven will begin to be revealed when you pursue God with all of your heart. You must first look to Jesus.
