Does God Still Love Me If I Continue to Sin?

doesgodstilllovemeificontinuetosinanswerRecently, a lot of people have proposed the question, “Does God still love me if I continue to sin?” This is typically something that can consume our thoughts when we seem to be in bondage to making the same wrong choice(s) over and over again. In most cases, each act is followed by some form of guilt and shame, which are the end results of each sinful decision.

However, these feelings are never from God. The Holy Spirit will convict you of areas that need to change in your life, but these words will always be spoken in a gentle, loving and healing manner. God wants us to find freedom from our sin and not be held captive by it.

Christ Died For The Ungodly While We Were Still Sinners

In the Bible we are told that, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (NIV, Romans 5:6-8).

If Jesus Christ died for us while we were still sinners, then God’s love for us is not based on the condition of our performances. In fact, we are also reminded that, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (NIV, John 3:16-18).

Guilt vs. Grace

This verse goes on to tell us that it is through this light, Jesus Christ, that our deeds are exposed, yet also the very place where our healing journey begins. Guilt will always drive us deeper into sin, because we become focused on our problem instead of the solution. In fact, it can even cause us to turn away from God to follow our own sin–>repentance–>performance cycle instead of looking to Him.

But how many times has this brought you true victory? If we are honest with ourselves, no matter how hard we try on our own to fix our problems, we only tend to fall deeper into sin and addiction as a result. We will come up short every single time, which will leave us feeling worthless and defeated.

Only through Christ Jesus can we find freedom from our captivity. It is by grace alone that we are drawn to God. By His loving touch, you will begin to see yourself for who you really are, and your heart and life will be transformed forever. As we press into Him, we will find the strength, power and resolve to overcome our sins. He alone has the power to break the chains!
